The amicable report is an essential element to be well compensated. It should therefore be completed carefully, paying particular attention to the circumstances section. Documents outside the report, such as testimonials and photographs, are also important.
What is the amicable report used for?
The amicable report of an automobile accident is a form drawn up according to an agreement between European insurance companies. It can therefore be written in another language of a country of the EEC, the text remaining identical. This document is intended to allow the automated processing of an automobile claim. It is used during a collision between two vehicles. In the event of an accident involving three vehicles, two statements will be required and so on… It can also be used for damage that you cause alone or for damage that you suffer alone: leaving the road, theft, fire… automated processing allows rapid compensation for damages.
How to properly complete the joint report?
It is advisable to (re)read the instructions for use on the back of the blue cover of the document. It has a front and a back. The front is written and signed with the other driver, preferably on the spot. It includes 15 sections to be completed in full and carefully. For example, we must not forget article 4 which concerns material damage so that they are covered by insurers. If there are injuries, this must be reported in section 3. The observations section allows for clarification.
Usefulness of the back
The back is called a “declaration”.It allows the insurer to check three points: the consistency of the declarations, the forfeiture or not of the guarantee, and the possible exclusion of the guarantee if the contract taken out by the insured does not cover the damage.
Circumstances
Circumstances, in section 12, describe the driver’s situation at impact: what exactly was he doing? There are 17 checkboxes: you must put crosses in all the boxes which will be useful to specify the sketch. The number of boxes checked must also be indicated. It should be noted that the companies essentially deal with the files according to the circumstances, that is to say boxes checked, and according to a “scale of responsibility” established in accordance with the highway code and the evolution of case law. The scale applies per shift, from 0, 25, 50, 75 to 100% responsibility.
Testimonials and photographs
These are documents outside the report. The photographs show the damage. Written testimonies can clarify the circumstances. They are intended to support or dispute the indications of the report and to provide additional information on the extent of the damage or the circumstances of the accident.
