Since September 22, 2017, five ordinances reforming the labor law were signed by Emmanuel Macron and published on September 23 in the Official Journal. The purpose of this reform is to strengthen the social dialogue within companies by leaving more freedom to the protagonists.

No less than 36 measures have been put in place, including:

- the possibility of negotiating more easily with employees through elected representatives in companies with less than 20 and 50 employees;

- the introduction of a scale setting off industrial tribunals' compensation in the event of unfair dismissal (except in the case of discrimination or harassment), whereas until then these allowances were freely determined by the judge (the maximum limit is 20 months salary for 30 years of seniority);

* - the time limit for bringing the industrial tribunals is reduced from 2 years to 1 year for all dismissals;

* - it is the company, by the conclusion of a majority agreement, which will decide the duration of the working time, the remuneration and the mobility of the employees; - all the representative bodies of the personnel will be united in a single entity called "social and economic committee"; - the possibility for companies to adapt the duration of the proposed contracts according to the projects envisaged, while framing short contracts; - the authorization of economic redundancies is brought back to the national level, therefore an economically healthy multinational company at the global level may decide to close a subsidiary in difficulty in France; * - the encouragement given to companies that promote teleworking; * - the 25% increase in statutory severance pay; * Some measures came into effect immediately (the measures we have listed followed by a *), while the others will be the subject of implementing decrees.  NB: the bill to ratify ordinances will be submitted to Parliament around November 20, but this will only be a formality since the MPs of Emmanuel Macron's party are largely in the majority and the Senate always leaves the last word to the National Assembly.
